South African David Frost moved into a one-stroke lead before a series of thunderstorms halted play Friday in the Canadian Open golf tournament at Oakville, Canada.

The second round was suspended with 78 of 156 competitors still on the 7,102-yard Glen Abbey course in suburban Toronto.

The schedule for the $600,000 tournament now calls for the players who did not finish Friday to return for the completion of second-round play this morning.

After a brief break, the field will be trimmed to the 70 lowest scorers for the third round in the afternoon.

Frost, frequently a contender but not yet a winner in three seasons on the PGA Tour, finished his five-under-par 67 a couple of hours before play was suspended.

That gave him a 36-hole total of 138.

Fellow South African Nick Price also had a 67 and was tied for second place with Mike McCullough at 139. McCullough, who got into the tournament as the fourth alternate, also had a second-round 67.

Former champion Curtis Strange was next among the early finishers at 141. He shot a 70 Friday.

First-round leader Joey Sindelar was another stroke back at 142 after slipping to a second-round 74.

Rookie Nancy Taylor shot a three-under-par 69 to increase her lead to two strokes after two rounds of the Jamie Farr LPGA Toledo tournament at Toledo, Ohio.
