‘Creation Science in Schools’
Nord suggests that the exclusion of creation science from public school biology courses has “sanctioned the establishment of secularism in public education.” The Supreme Court’s recent decision, however, does not inhibit discussion of the Bible in literature, philosophy or theology classes--courses which are frequently optional. In addition, Nord mistakenly assumes that evolution and religious beliefs are always mutually exclusive. Many persons accept the hybrid notion that a deity had varying degrees of intervention in the evolution process.
The First Amendment was cited in the court’s decision regarding the Louisiana law. The federal government violates that intent of this mandate daily. Oaths, pledges, and slogans on our currency favor and promote a national religion: theism.
