A man who hitched a ride on a freight train slipped under its wheels early Friday, losing both feet, Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies said.
Kenneth Alan Wright, 19, was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
Sheriff’s Deputy Steven Lee said Wright had hitched a ride on the train and was trying to jump off near the 4000 block of West 167th Street in Lawndale about 3:30 a.m. when he slipped under its wheels. Both of Wright’s feet were sliced off above the ankles.
The train continued on its way, its crew unaware of what had happened, Lee said.
