Pasadena : City Hall Ramps Planned
Within a year, people using wheelchairs will be able to enter City Hall through one of four ramps on two sides of the building. The Board of Directors has unanimously approved plans to provide access to the handicapped from both Euclid and Garfield avenues.
In April, groups working on the $5-million restoration of City Hall approved plans to install a pair of ramps on the Euclid side at a cost of $250,000. But Director Rick Cole said the disabled should be able to enter on Garfield Avenue, which many people consider the front of City Hall. The architects then submitted plans for ramps on the Garfield side at a cost of $85,000. The board approved both proposals.
Eileen Schaefer, city administrative analyst, said construction could begin as early as mid-August and should be completed in nine months.
