A sheriff’s deputy and an elderly woman were chased by two pit bulls in the Hacienda Heights area before the deputy shot and wounded one of the dogs, authorities said. Deputies Tim Fox and John Rondino responded to a call from Helen Oldfield, 62, who reported that two pit bulls had chased her to her front door, Deputy James Woodruff said. From their patrol car, the deputies saw the two dogs walking across residential yards, Woodruff said. The deputies approached the dogs and were trying to hold them for county animal control officers when both dogs charged Fox, Woodruff said. Fox quickly darted back into the patrol car, where he drew his gun and fired, hitting one dog in the chest, Woodruff said. The injured canine was taken to an animal hospital, where its condition was not immediately known, Woodruff said. Alice Acevez, 31, owner of the dogs, was later cited for several violations of animal control laws, he said.
