The Glendale Humane Society impounded 26 Persian cats living in squalid conditions at the home of a man cited earlier this year for animal abuse. Scott H. Howard, senior assistant city attorney for Glendale, said that Alexander Paul Alexander, 43, is awaiting trial on five misdemeanor charges of animal abuse filed against him in January and that no more animal-cruelty charges were filed in this incident. Alexander was arrested on felony weapons charges after officers assisting in the removal of the cats found a loaded .45-caliber Deringer pistol, converted to fire shotgun shells, in the house. He was later released on $1,000 bail.
