Arden Pedersen, a veteran firefighter from Orange, has been named fire chief in Rancho Santa Fe.
Pedersen, 48, a battalion chief at his old department, will succeed Peter Fox in the $55,200-a-year post starting Aug. 1. Fox will remain with the Fire Department in a management role.
The Rancho Santa Fe department has 31 full-time employees, 4 stations and 14 volunteers, and covers 48 square miles.
