In the city where the jazz sounds of Charlie Parker and Count Basie still echo along 12th Street, a new generation of musicians is carrying on the old tradition.

The fourth annual Jobs of Note program is under way in Kansas City this summer. It puts musically talented inner-city high school students to work playing jazz in downtown parks, nursing homes, day-care centers and shopping districts.
