Police in Medford, Ore., were looking into the possibility that a man arrested there in the murder of 6-year-old Theresa Cervantes in Fresno last Father’s Day might also have been involved in the Dec. 9, 1987, disappearance of Christy Farni while she was walking to a Medford kindergarten. Warren Chase, 37, became a suspect in the Fresno slaying July 13 when Medford police arrested him for allegedly stealing from a Salvation Army donation box and found newspaper clippings in his pockets about the case, in which the child’s body was set afire. Chase waived extradition to Fresno, where police have been told by Medford detectives that Chase apparently was in the Oregon city shortly before the Farni girl vanished 8 1/2 years ago.
