An amateur body builder was sentenced to four years in prison and fined $320,000 for smuggling more than $3 million worth of anabolic steroids into the United States and selling them to black market distributors. Leander Lodi, 31, of Altadena, told U.S. District Judge Robert M. Takasugi that he was “genuinely sorry” for his role in illegally distributing the drugs, which are favored by many athletes for their muscle bulk-producing qualities, but which are limited to prescriptive medical uses because of their potentially serious side effects.
