Ward Finishes Sixth in 200-Meter Freestyle

Darren Ward, a graduate of Sonora High School, finished sixth in the 200-meter freestyle final Wednesday in the Esso Cup, Canada’s summer long-course swimming nationals being held in Calgary, Alberta.

Ward, who holds dual citizenship in Canada and the United States, finished the race in 1 minute 53.24 seconds, a second slower than his best time in the event.

Ward, who felt his chances of making the Canadian national team were better than making the U.S. team, will be competing in three other events, including his speciality, the 200-meter individual medley, later this week.
