Davies Wins Women’s Open
Britain’s Laura Davies rolled long birdie putts at the 14th and 15th holes to win the 42nd U.S. Women’s Open today by two strokes over Ayako Okamoto in a three-way 18-hole playoff. LPGA Hall of Famer JoAnne Carner, looking to become the tournament’s oldest winner at 48, finished three shots back.
Davies, 23, considered the longest hitter in women’s golf, posted a one-under-par 71 to capture the most prestigious tournament on the LPGA tour. It is the first victory on the U.S. tour for Davies, also the British Women’s Open champion.
