Three people were rescued several miles off the Southern California coast, more than three hours after the engine on their 18-foot power boat died, setting them adrift in six-foot seas, authorities reported. U.S. Coast Guard spokesman Don Roberts said a CB radio operator picked up the distress call and alerted rescuers. The boat’s operator, identified only as D. Mowtague, of Goleta, and two passengers were found safe by a Channel Islands Coast Guard emergency crew.
