Couple Report Pointed Gun on Freeway

An Agoura Hills couple reported that a passenger in a Volkswagen van pointed a handgun at them Saturday night on the Ventura Freeway, but no shots were fired, and no one was arrested, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Chaim Kaltgred, 33, and his wife, Mischell, 31, were westbound in the fast lane of the freeway near Liberty Canyon Road in Agoura when they saw shouts exchanged between occupants of a car and the light blue, older-model van in the lanes next to them about 7:30 p.m., Lt. John Love said.

The driver of car sped off, and the Kaltgred car pulled even with the van, which was full of teen-agers, Deputy Pete Fosselman said.

Mischell Kaltgred looked at the van and saw someone in the front passenger seat pointing a gun at her, Fosselman said. She ducked, and her husband accelerated, exiting the freeway to northbound Kanan Road, he said. The van took the same exit but headed south, he said.

The couple did not report the incident until about 15 minutes later when they arrived home, Love said, and a helicopter-aided search failed to locate the van.
