Sign Plan for 55 Commuter Lane

Share

The installation of a moving text sign about 50 feet from the 55 Freeway at its slowest point (moving uphill and curving right after the Interstate 5-55 merger) has to be a great mistake on the part of the governmental body or person who approved the permit.

There are already almost daily rear-enders and sideswipings in this stretch of freeway. Frequently these cause the long delays experienced going and coming from work. How can a moving message sign not exacerbate the problem? Only an official who does not drive this stretch of freeway daily could possibly have approved such a distraction on the already-slowest stretch of Route 55.

I realize that the auto dealers exert a great amount of influence in the community and that auto dealer “parks” are the in thing. They contribute a lot of taxes to the community. However, government should agree that they do enough advertising in the papers, on radio and TV.

A moving text sign next to the 55 Freeway is definitely not needed or desirable from a public-safety viewpoint.
