Australia’s Barton Lynch, weaving through pier pilings on six-foot waves, defeated surprise finalist Sunny Garcia to win the Op Pro Surfing Championship at Huntington Beach.
Lynch, 24, who earlier upset two-time defending world champion Tom Curren of Santa Barbara, earned $10,000 for his victory over Garcia, a 17-year-old Hawaiian surfer.
