Cerritos : Liberty Park to Be Enlarged

Share

New athletic courts, picnic areas, a jogging track and additional parking spaces will be built next year at Liberty Park under a $2.5-million expansion plan approved last week by the Cerritos City Council.

The new facilities, which should be finished by December, 1988, will be built on about 20 acres lining the eastern edge of the San Gabriel River between South Street and Del Amo Boulevard.

The athletic courts will cater to a variety of sports tastes. There will be two grass volleyball courts, four new lighted tennis courts, two additional lighted basketball courts and four indoor racquetball courts. New restroom facilities and 131 parking spaces also will be added to the wedge-shaped slice of land off Studebaker Road.

The city owns portions of the tract and will lease the rest from the Southern California Edison Co. and the Los Angeles County Flood Control Districts.
