Share

Police are investigating the origin of a homemade bomb that exploded behind a Granada Hills shopping center, prompting police to evacuate several stores as they searched for other bombs.

The bomb exploded in a parking lot behind a store in the center, at the intersection of Balboa Boulevard and Devonshire Street, at 9:30 p.m. Friday, said Officer Wallace Cooke of the Los Angeles Police Department. No property was damaged, and there were no injuries, he said.

Soon after the explosion, a business in the center received an anonymous call saying that several other bombs were set to go off in the center, police said.

Officers began evacuating a supermarket, a restaurant and several other businesses and closed nearby streets as they searched for bombs, Cook said. None was found, he said.

Investigation of the explosion was turned over to the LAPD’s Criminal Conspiracy Division. All businesses in the center reopened Saturday, police said.
