Ten people were injured Sunday in two separate accidents involving Southern California Rapid Transit District buses, police and RTD officials said.

Five people were injured about 10:30 a.m. when a bus collided with a car at 1st and Hill streets in downtown Los Angeles, said Los Angeles Police Department Accident Investigator Mark Johnson.

Three bus passengers and the car driver, Rahniel Chady, were treated at a nearby hospital and released, Johnson said.

No one was arrested or ticketed in the accident, he said.

The bus driver, Alvaro Valencia, complained of injuries, but was not taken to a hospital, officials said.

The car, which was headed west on 1st Street, allegedly ran a red light and hit the bus, which was south bound on Hill Street, officials said.

In a second accident shortly before 1:30 p.m., five people were injured when a southbound car turned left in front of a north-bound bus on Normandie Avenue at 91st Street in an unincorporated area of Los Angeles County, said RTD spokesman Rick Jager.

Both people in the car and three bus riders were taken to Centinela Hospital, he said. A hospital spokeswoman said two of the people declined treatment and one person was treated and released. The condition of the other two was not known.
