Dave Krieg passed for two touchdowns late in the first half, and backup quarterback Jeff Kemp threw for a touchdown in the third quarter Friday night as the Seattle Seahawks beat the Detroit Lions, 38-10, for their first exhibition victory.

After poor performances in road losses to the Rams and the St. Louis Cardinals, Krieg completed 15 of 19 passes for 177 yards.

Krieg snapped a 10-10 tie with an eight-yard scoring pass play to Daryl Turner after hitting fullback John L. Williams on a 21-yard touchdown pass play.

Kemp connected on an 18-yard touchdown pass play to rookie Louis Clark late in the third quarter.

Detroit went almost three quarters with second-year quarterback Chuck Long, who temporarily quieted the Kingdome crowd of 59,695 with a 90-yard touchdown pass play to Jeff Chadwick late in the first half. Long had two passes intercepted.

The first half appeared headed to a 3-3 standoff before a flurry of touchdowns in the final 2:44 left Seattle with a 17-10 halftime lead.

Norm Johnson kicked a 37-yard field goal for Seattle, and Russell Erxleben booted a 33-yard field goal for the Lions in the first half.

Seattle’s other touchdowns came on a pair of one-yard runs by Randall Morris, Curt Warner’s backup at running back. Morris scored with 3:59 gone in the third quarter and with 3:16 left in the game.

In addition to Krieg and Kemp, the Seahawks used Gale Gilbert at quarterback, while the Lions also used Joe Ferguson. It was the first action of the exhibition season for Gilbert, a Seattle starter for two games last season.

The game marked the Kingdome debut of Seattle’s much-heralded rookie middle linebacker, Brian Bosworth, who received a 10-year, $11-million contract after being picked in a June supplemental draft.
