A driver’s mistake caused an empty monorail train to ram another train carrying 75 passengers at the California State Fair in Sacramento, forcing riders to climb down Fire Department ladders to escape. There were no injuries in the incident. Fair Manager Joe Barkett said the empty monorail was being run manually and being returned to the station for repair on a malfunctioning door. The driver was “not paying attention,” Barkett said, and accidentally rammed the passenger train. Barkett said the automatic trains move at 6 m.p.h., and that the crash caused “significant” damage to the front of one train and the rear of the other.
