A new round of U.N.-sponsored talks on Afghanistan will be held in Geneva from Sept. 7 to Sept. 9, in response to a proposal by the Kabul government, Under Secretary General Diego Cordovez announced Monday.

The talks, involving indirect negotiations between Afghan and Pakistani representatives aimed at securing the withdrawal of Soviet troops and the repatriation of Afghan refugees, have been continuing since 1982.
