VISALIA, Calif. —
A reporter and photographer for the Visalia Times-Delta suffered first- and second-degree burns on their backs when wind whipped up flames on a backfire at the scene of a fire in the Sierra Nevada. Photographer Robert Hanashiro and reporter Dan Montgomery were burned while they were with Department of Forestry Battalion Chief Candace Gregory on a trip to the fire lines of a 3,600-acre blaze in Tulare County.
