A Pasadena man sought in connection with the killing of his estranged wife at her La Jolla apartment Sunday turned himself in to Covina police Monday.

Douglas F. Dustin, 52, walked into the Covina Police Department with his lawyer at 4:30 a.m., said Sgt. Bob Manis of the San Diego Police Department.

On Sunday, Adelheid G. Dustin, 50, was found dead in front of her apartment by officers who responded to calls from neighbors at 7:22 p.m. She had multiple gunshot wounds in the head and upper body.

Witnesses told police they overheard the victim calling for help and saw her run into the street with a man chasing her.

“They saw him chasing her into the street while she screamed, ‘Help me, help me!’ ” Manis said. “They heard gunshots and saw him firing at her after she fell to the ground.”

Manis said witnesses knew the suspect, who used to live at the La Jolla residence with the victim. He said police were expected to transfer Dustin to the San Diego County Jail.
