Laguna Beach : Glare Prompts Search for New Night Softball Site

Share

The City Council voted Tuesday night to direct the city’s staff to examine a new site for night adult softball.

In July, several residents near Laguna Beach High School complained about nighttime glare from new lights installed on the school’s ball field. The city had placed new lights on four existing 45-foot poles and on two newly installed poles, 60 and 80 feet high.

Tuesday night, the council rejected the city’s staff recommendation to spend $33,000 on devices that would have reduced the glare by 80%.

Instead, council members agreed that the city should examine El Morro Elementary School as an alternate site for nighttime softball, because it is in a non-residential area.

The council asked the city to report in November on its search for a new site.
