Yet another investigation into the Woodfords fire, which destroyed 26 homes in the High Sierra community in July, will be conducted to determine if firefighters handled the blaze properly. The latest investigation was announced by federal Bureau of Land Management Director Robert Burford and U.S. Forest Service Chief F. Dale Robertson following a meeting in Washington with Sen. Chic Hecht (R-Nev.). The two officials were told of charges that federal firefighters misjudged the blaze and stood by while homes went up in flames. The 6,000-acre fire burned out of control for several days in and around the Alpine County resort community on the Nevada-California border.
