16-Year-Old Suspect in Baby’s Death Is Freed
A 16-year-old Simi Valley girl arrested on suspicion of murder in the death of a baby left in a Dumpster was released Thursday from Ventura County Juvenile Hall into the custody of her parents, authorities said.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Thomas J. Hutchins said the girl is still a suspect and an investigation is continuing.
The girl was arrested by Simi Valley police after she was picked up Tuesday at an undisclosed high school.
Police said the girl was believed to be the mother of a newborn baby who died of exposure in January after being dumped in a trash bin behind a Simi Valley supermarket.
