Dana Hills High School had a school-record 8 sacks and scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to upset Laguna Beach, 31-17, in a nonleague game at Dana Hills Friday night.

Dolphin tailback Jason Burden scored on runs of 5, 3 and 45 yards as Dana Hills (2-1) knocked off the Desert Mountain Conference’s seventh-ranked team.

The game was delayed 20 minutes by a blackout caused by a circuit overload.

Dana Hills Coach Don Douglass said his team had its best performance against the best opponent it has played this season. Senior end Pat Borkheim and junior tackle Andy Adair led the pass rush that harassed Laguna Beach quarterback Danny Lane. Lane opened the game 7 for 8 in passing, but Dana Hills kept him running after that.

Laguna Beach (2-1) scored on its first possession. The 54-yard drive ended on Lane’s six-yard pass to tight end Pete Schmitt with 2:55 remaining in the first quarter.

Dolphin Craig Lombardi intercepted a pass to set up a 36-yard touchdown drive. Dana Hills scored with 14 seconds left in the half on a 31-yard pass from Donny Macintyre to Zach Hickman.

Laguna Beach regained the lead, 17-14, in the fourth period. But Dana Hills recovered a fumble deep in Laguna Beach territory, and Burden gave the Dolphins a 21-17 lead with his three-yard scoring burst. Burden’s 45-yarder came on a fourth and one with 51 seconds remaining.
