Lopez Is the Winner on Technical Decision
Hector Lopez of Glendale won the Stroh’s featherweight boxing tournament Thursday night, beating previously undefeated Georgie Navarro of Vineland, N.J., on a technical decision when Lopez was butted in the second round and declared unable to continue.
Lopez, 126, whose only professional loss was to Navarro, 125, on a 12-round decision in an ESPN featherweight title bout at Atlantic City, N.J., in August 1986, was ahead on points when the fight was stopped.
Lopez (15-1) won $75,000; Navarro (16-1) earned $10,000.
