Pillsbury’s Spoor Joins Executive Committee

William Spoor, retired chairman of the Pillsbury Co., Minneapolis, has accepted added responsibility at the company by becoming chairman of its executive committee.

Spoor, who has remained on the company’s board of directors following his retirement as chairman, will replace Pillsbury Chief Executive Officer John Stafford as chairman of the executive committee.

The five-member executive committee, of which Spoor has been a member, meets several times annually in addition to regular board meetings.

Members, who also are directors of the company, act for the board on important company matters between regular board meetings.

Johnny Thompson, a spokesman for Pillsbury, said Thursday that the move is not related to the company’s sharp earnings decline in fiscal 1987.

“It’s simply a realignment of board responsibilities,” Thompson said, adding that it “signals no change in the management of the company.”

Spoor became chairman of the executive committee at Stafford’s request, Thompson said.

Stafford and Spoor were out of town and could not be reached for comment Thursday or Friday.
