CHECKING ON CIMINO

Share

We’d just gotten over the shock that “Michael Collins,” director Michael Cimino’s epic saga of a 1920s Irish rebel, was postponed (variously reported as due to budget, weather and script problems) when news arrived that he’ll be back behind the camera in early December for “Santa Ana Wind.”

The contemporary romantic drama is set in L.A., from a screenplay by Floyd Mutrux and bankrolled by Nelson Entertainment, which also backed the now-postponed “Collins.” A tight-lipped rep in Cimino’s office added that it’s “about the San Fernando Valley and the friendship between two guys” amd “more intimate” than Cimino’s previous big-budget work (like “Heaven’s Gate” and the upcoming “Sicilian”).

Though preliminary work began only a month ago, we’re told Cimino already has re-staffed most of his office.
