Negotiations in the NFL strike resumed today after the union’s 28 player representatives at an all-night meeting agreed to soften their stance on free agency.

Commissioner Pete Rozelle said he was encouraged by the resumption of talks. “I think pressures are starting to build on both sides.” And while union representative Gene Upshaw never said free agency had been dropped, a resolution approved by all 28 player reps at their marathon meeting in Chicago read: “(Upshaw) made a commitment to the reps that he would not let any single issue hold up reaching an agreement.”
