Countywide : Supervisors Ask CHP to Expand Radar Use

Share

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously requested that the California Highway Patrol use county-purchased radar units to enforce speed limits throughout unincorporated Orange County.

Supervisor Gaddi H. Vasquez said numerous residents in his district, which covers eastern Orange County, had complained of speeding drivers.

Currently the CHP uses radar on some local roads in North Tustin and Mission Viejo and along the Ortega Highway.

If the CHP heeds the county’s request, the county will buy several radar sets, which cost about $2,000 each, and the CHP will use and maintain them. City police departments in the county already use radar to monitor speeders.
