Double Plays Aren’t All That’s Broken Up

Share

Shortstops and second basemen unite. You have nothing to lose but broken bones and ruined careers. I say ban the rolling killer block. Breaking up the double play is a dirty and cruel act that is clearly in violation of baseball’s rule book and the spirit of fair play. It stinks.

The Toronto Blue Jays lost a golden opportunity to play in the World Series. First it was their brilliant shortstop Tony Fernandez, who was taken out of the play while trying to make a throw to first base to complete a double play. He suffered a broken elbow on his $10,000,000-arm. Then his teammate, catcher Ernie Witt, broke two ribs because of this brazen, macho football play, that for some reason has become an accepted part of the game.
