Irvin’s Thinking About Going Back to School
Ram cornerback LeRoy Irvin was among those players who walked the picket line Sunday. Unless the strike is settled soon, Irvin said he may explore a new career: coaching.
Irvin said he has been approached by his former school, Kansas University, for a position as an assistant coach. The initial offer was only for Irvin’s services during KU’s spring practices. But as the strike enters its fourth week, Irvin said he may visit Lawrence, Kan., earlier than expected.
“You never know, I may be coaching back there,” said Irvin, whose only coaching experience is his work with a local Pop Warner team.
And if the coaching deal falls through, Irvin said he still may return to ol’ KU. “I have season tickets,” he said. “I don’t ever use them, but I buy them because it’s my school.”
What’s worse: replacement football or hapless KU?
“Hey, at least (KU) is a team,” Irvin said. “At least they know each other’s names.”
