U.S. Men’s Team Wins Wheelchair Tennis Title
Brad Parks and Chip Parmelly won their singles matches to lead the top-ranked United States to a 3-0 victory over Australia Monday in the final of the men’s team division of the U.S. Open wheelchair tennis championships at The Racquet Club of Irvine.
Parks, of San Clemente, defeated Mick Connell, 6-1, 6-1, and Parmelly, of Diamond Bar, defeated John Sorenson, 6-0, 6-1.
In the third-place match, France defeated Great Britain, 2-1. In the fifth-place match, Israel defeated Holland, 3-0.
In the women’s team final, Chantal Vandierendonck, the world’s top-ranked player, and Monique VanderBosche, ranked No. 2, swept their doubles and singles matches to lead Holland to a 3-0 victory over the United States.
