Alan Kerr and Pat LaFontaine each scored twice, and Kelly Hrudey stopped 31 shots for his fourth career shutout to lead the unbeaten New York Islanders to a 6-0 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday night at Philadelphia.

The Islanders’ 3-0-0 start is their best since 1976-77, when they went 5-0-1 to begin the season. All three wins have been on the road.

It was the first regular-season shutout against Philadelphia since Feb. 16, 1987, when the Flyers were defeated by the Calgary Flames, 5-0.

Pittsburgh 6, N.Y. Rangers 6--Mario Lemieux scored his first three goals of the season, including the game-tying shot with 4:27 left in regulation, and Dan Quinn scored the other three goals as the Penguins rallied to tie the Rangers at Pittsburgh.

Lemieux completed his eighth career hat trick by snapping a shot past Bob Froese from the bottom of the right circle.

Tomas Sandstrom had given New York a 6-5 lead with a power-play goal at 13:37. The goal came on a back-hand swipe at John Ogrodnick’s pass after it eluded Penguin forward Chris Kontos.

The Rangers got the man advantage when Penguin goalie Pat Riggin was given a delay-of-game penalty for holding the puck too long.

Ex-King Marcel Dionne pulled the Rangers even, 5-5, at 5:14 of the third period with his fourth goal of the season. Brian Mullen, who scored two goals, freed the puck from the left wing boards, and Dionne cut to the net and directed Mullen’s pass past Riggin.
