Rockets Sign Sampson for 6 Years, $12 Million
Forward Ralph Sampson of the Houston Rockets signed a 6-year, $12-million contract with the National Basketball Assn. team Thursday.
The Rockets now have their Twin Towers under long-term contract. Center Akeem Olajuwon signed a 12-year contract last season that pays him an average of $2.5 million a year.
“I don’t think I have anything to prove to anybody but myself, and the only thing I have to prove to myself is to go out and play basketball,” Sampson said.
The contract ended seven months of negotiations between the team and Sampson’s agent, Gene Perry.
“I figured it would be done sooner or later,” Sampson said. “I’m happy with the contract and I’m glad I’ll be playing basketball here (in Houston).”
