Waterfront Property : A Preview of Suits for Spring at International Swimwear Show

Tomorrowland, the futuristic neighborhood at Disneyland, was the setting for a preview of next spring’s swimsuits.

Some of the newest-looking styles had a way of covering a lot without hiding more than a little. They were two-piece body cinchers that extended to mid-thigh, with tops that stretched down close to the waist.

One-piece looks echoed last summer’s sportswear, with off-the-shoulder or high-neckline halter tops. Almost all styles were made of shiny fabrics that gave a glamorous, mermaid-like shimmer instead of the matte, more athletic look that has been popular for a number of seasons.

The hippest suits were versions of wet suits you would have to peel off if it weren’t for their industrial-size zippers. The look began in Southern California beach towns where surfer girls have been wearing it both on and off the beach.

The show was part of ISAM, the International Swimwear and Activewear Market. It was the final event of an annual buyers’-market week here. Earlier, the California Mart previewed highlights from the enormous exhibition.
