D.A. Drops Attempt to End Morrison’s Bail
A motion to revoke the bail of convicted teen-age bank robber Michael Scott Morrison was withdrawn Friday by the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
The motion to revoke Morrison’s $50,000 bail stemmed from a misdemeanor battery charge filed against him earlier this month. Morrison, 19, of Tarzana pleaded not guilty to the Sept. 15 beating of fellow Pierce College student Jason Gilbert, 18.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Larry Diamond said the motion was withdrawn because there were no witnesses to the fight so it could not be established who started it.
Van Nuys Superior Court Judge Alan B. Haber ordered Morrison to have no more contact with Gilbert and warned him against any more brushes with the law.
In June, Morrison pleaded guilty to robbing a teller at the Barclay’s Bank branch in Tarzana in March, 1985, and to stealing a car in May, 1985, from the parking lot of a Woodland Hills restaurant.
Morrison is free on bail pending appeal. He had been sentenced to five years in custody of the California Youth Authority.
