The San Diego County district attorney’s office announced Tuesday it is considering special-circumstances allegations against a Spring Valley man charged with two murders that could bring the death penalty.
The announcement by Deputy Dist. Atty. Greg Waldon came after the arraignment for Francisco Urias Uriarte, 30, was postponed until Oct. 23.
Uriarte is accused of killing Jeff Constantino, 37, and his wife, Nancy, 36, late Thursday night in an apartment they were visiting on Delrose Avenue in Spring Valley.
Two attempted-murder charges were also filed Tuesday involving the wounding of Thomas Eberwein, 32, and John Alva, 33, whom the Constantinos were visiting.
No motive for the bizarre shooting has been found, Waldon said.
“We’re in the dark,” he said. “He barged into the apartment and started shooting. (The couple) were killed almost immediately.”
As to filing the special-circumstances allegations against Uriarte, Waldon said, “We are reviewing that right now.”
Uriarte lives in the apartment complex where the shootings occurred. Witnesses said he started calling out his wife’s name before shooting.
Uriarte remains in County Jail without bail.
