The National Collegiate Athletic Assn. has extended the probation of the University of Tennessee indefinitely while it looks into published reports of a cover-up in the school’s 1986 investigation of the football program. The probation imposed last year was scheduled to end Oct. 9.
The NCAA would not comment further and did not say how long it expected the investigation to take.
Athletic Director Doug Dickey said: “Since we have no allegations against any current members of the 1987-88 University of Tennessee sports teams, we are very interested in getting this matter behind us and continuing on with our program.”
