Jeffrey Seymour, 20, son of state Sen. John Seymour (R-Anaheim), was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor battery early Monday morning following an altercation at the Holiday Inn in Hollywood, Los Angeles police said.

Seymour and a friend, Sean Morphew, 22, were arrested after three hotel security guards tried to break up a fight between the two friends in the 10th-floor stairwell, according to Joseph Tholmer, head of security at the hotel. Morphew was also arrested on suspicion of battery, said Detective Jim Bosse of LAPD’s Hollywood Division.

Tholmer said Monday that Morphew was a guest at the hotel, where there was a large party put on by radio station KPWR-FM. Sen. Seymour said both his son and Morphew were student interns at the station. Jeffrey Seymour, who lives in Anaheim, has attended Fullerton College but is not now enrolled in that school, according to his father.

Tholmer said the altercation moved to Morphew’s room and resulted in Tholmer and another security guard, Ted Eredics, being slightly injured.

The KPWR-sponsored party, which featured live bands, drew about 15,000 people to the area surrounding the Holiday Inn Sunday night to celebrate Hollywood’s 100th anniversary.

Seymour and Morphew, who are due to appear in Hollywood Municipal Court on Nov. 16, were released on their own recognizance. Neither could be reached for comment.

Sen. Seymour said Monday he had talked with his son about the incident but did not want to comment directly on it.

“He’s told me his side. Like any other parent, I’m going to give Jeffrey all the support I can,” Seymour said. “If he’s violated the law, I’ll stand behind him, and he’ll have to pay the price like any other citizen.”
