Local News in Brief : Beach Warnings Posted

For the second weekend in a row, some Santa Monica Bay beaches will be posted with health warnings because of a sewage spill.

A power outage in Pacific Palisades caused 25,000 gallons of raw sewage to back up through manholes and onto Pacific Coast Highway between Sunset Boulevard and Temescal Canyon Road.

Some sewage flowed onto nearby Will Rogers State Beach and into the ocean, promoting the county Department of Health Services to post the beach. A larger spill last week led officials to post warnings along the entire coastline from Ventura County to Long Beach.

The Friday spill occurred when power failed at a pumping station run by the Los Angeles City Bureau of Sanitation. Mayor Tom Bradley ordered backup power installed several months ago, but the project has not been completed.
