Dyan Cannon is starring in a film for “The Disney Sunday Movie” series on ABC. She plays the title character in “Rock and Roll Mom,” about a supermarket checkout clerk who suddenly becomes a rock star and must hide the fact that she has two teen-age children. Also in the cast are Telma Hopkins, Michael Brandon and Nancy Lenehan.

Tom Brokaw and the “NBC Nightly News” will have a new look this week--at least for some viewers. The show will begin appearing with closed captions to enable the deaf and hearing-impaired to understand what is being said. The captions will be seen only by those viewers who have purchased special decoding devices that attach to the TV set.

Sam Waterston, who stars on CBS this month in “Terrorist on Trial,” will be seen later this season in another major TV movie, “Gore Vidal’s Lincoln,” playing Abraham Lincoln from his inauguration as the 16th President in January, 1861, through his assassination in 1865. Mary Tyler Moore has been cast as Mary Lincoln in the four-hour drama for NBC.

Jack Paar, who returned to TV in a prime-time special last season, will star in another such show for NBC this season. His guests on “Jack Paar Is Alive and Well” will be Debbie Reynolds, Jackie Mason and George Burns. The program is set to air Dec. 19.

ABC is planning a two-hour salute to Las Vegas on Nov. 29. Among the celebrities scheduled to appear on “Las Vegas: An All-Star 75th Anniversary” are Sammy Davis Jr., Wayne Newton, Tom Jones, Debbie Allen, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Pia Zadora.
