Fire officials and investigators from the district attorney’s office Monday continued their investigation of a company whose employees dumped an estimated 400 to 500 gallons of toxic chemicals during the weekend.

Deputy Fire Marshal William Sinclair said the investigation of C.E.M. West Inc., 15121 Golden West Circle, would not be completed for another day or two, at which time the district attorney’s office will determine whether charges will be lodged against company officials.

The manufacturing firm could face $25,000 in state fines and an additional amount in local fines for dumping the toxic chemicals, identified as chromic acid, barium nitrate and ammonium silico fluoride, he said. Acting on an anonymous telephone call, fire officials discovered employees of the firm releasing toxic liquid from a 750-gallon tank early Saturday morning.
