Local News in Brief : 2 Small Quakes Reported
Light earthquakes were felt in both Southern and Northern California Friday afternoon, seismologists reported, but there was no apparent damage in either area.
A temblor measuring 2.6 on the Richter scale rattled the Santa Monica area at 2:08 p.m., a Caltech Seismological Laboratory staff member said. It was centered two miles southwest of the city.
At 3:10 p.m., a quake registering 2.7 was felt in several communities east of San Francisco Bay. A spokesman for the UC Berkeley seismographic station said it was centered three miles north of Berkeley.
