COLLEGE HIGHLIGHTS : CSUN Qualifies for NCAA Cross-Country Meet

Cal State Northridge qualified for the NCAA Division II men’s cross-country championships for the fourth time in five years with a third-place finish at the West regional meet in Seattle, Wash.

Cal State Los Angeles placed first with 50 points, followed by UC Riverside with 79 points and CSUN with 82.

For the Matadors, Derrik Vett placed fifth (32:34), followed by Will James sixth (32:37) and George Castro eighth (32:42).

COLLEGE CROSS-COUNTRY

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 42, Cal State Los Angeles 60, Cal State Northridge 86--Cal State Northridge women’s team qualified for the nationals for the seventh time in the past eight years with a third-place finish in the Western regional finals. Darcy Arreola placed fifth (18:47) and Tina Chaney seventeenth (19:25) to lead the Matadors.

COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL

USC def. Cal State Northridge, 15-5, 15-8, 9-15, 15-11--Freshman Connie Noe came off the bench for 11 kills in a losing cause for Cal State Northridge (23-6).

Westmont def. Biola 14-16, 15-7, 11-15, 15-10, 16-14--Westmont won the NAIA District III playoffs at Cal Lutheran.

COLLEGE SOCCER

Biola 4, The Master’s 1--Biola (12-9-2) scored three goals in the final 30 minutes to upset the second-seeded Mustangs in the NAIA District III playoffs at Master’s.

Dave Tallman scored the only goal for Master’s (14-5) in the second half to tie the score at 1-1.
