Andrew Greer rushed for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns in 23 carries and became the leading rusher in Fullerton College history Saturday night as the Hornets defeated Golden West, 39-23, in front of 2,000 in a South Coast Conference football game at Orange Coast College.

Greer, a sophomore from Alta Loma High School, has rushed for 1,807 yards in his two-year career, surpassing Monty Bullerdick’s total of 1,790, set in 1975-76.

Greer had 917 yards last season and has 890 this season. He broke the record on a 35-yard run in the fourth quarter.

Greer scored on runs of 19 yards, 79 yards and 1 yard in the first half. His total of 226 yards is a personal best.

“I didn’t think I would get it this week,” Greer said. “It’s something really special to me and the offensive line.”

Quarterback Kerry Severson threw for one touchdown and ran for another for Fullerton (4-3-1, 3-1-1), which defeated Golden West for the seventh consecutive time and 11th time in 14 games.

The loss drops Golden West (4-3-1, 3-1-1) 1 1/2 games behind El Camino, which defeated Long Beach, 19-14, Saturday. El Camino (8-0, 5-0) only needs to defeat Pasadena next Saturday to win the South Coast Conference.
