The Shasta County Board of Supervisors has closed Shasta General Hospital in Redding despite a court order requiring that it be kept open. The hospital stopped admitting patients in preparation for a complete shutdown because of budget problems. Supervisors estimated losses at $10,000 per day. They said they were uncertain about the legal ramifications of closing the hospital to help reduce an $850,000 county budget deficit.
